During the Xbox Games Showcase conference in early June, Microsoft managed to reveal numerous announcements, including Flight Simulator 2024, the new opus of their famous flight simulator, developed by the French studio Asobo, which is based in Bordeaux.
The 2020 game was critically acclaimed for its technological innovations, particularly thanks to its graphics engine developed to generate world landscapes through the cloud. For Flight Simulator 2024, Asobo has surpassed its previous achievements, in particular correcting the main graphical limitation of the previous installment to offer an even more realistic rendering.
The main graphic novelty this year lies in the increased precision of the landscapes. At FlightSim Expo 2024 in Las Vegas last weekend, Asobo President Sebastian Wloch explained how the game world will be simulated even more realistically!
When flying in Flight Simulator, the natural scenery is very beautiful, but it can lose its realism when you look in detail. In fact, these are flat textures that do not reproduce different textures and materials, whether they are natural or not. Flight Simulator 2024’s graphics engine has been significantly overhauled compared to the 2020 version, especially in terms of texture and light rendering. All surfaces in the world will now be procedurally generated in 3D using Azure AI. For each area, the game will identify the type of material that makes up the land to create 3D realism.
