Our country is world-famous for the frauds of taxi drivers

Taxi scams plague visitors to Greece with high fees and limited payment options, especially on tourist routes.

The taxi scams are a common concern for passengers arriving in Greece, especially for routes from Athens airport to popular destinations such as Piraeus. A recent traveler reported on Reddit that he was overcharged when a taxi driver charged him €160 for a ride from the airport to Piraeus, while the driver insisted on paying in cash and avoided the card option.

A foreign visitor was recently in Athens for a short vacation and took a taxi from the airport to Piraeus, resulting in our country becoming internationally famous for the scam the taxi driver pulled on him.

On arrival at the airport, he had to transfer to the port of Piraeus. A taxi driver in his 50s quickly approached him, took his luggage and welcomed him into his taxi.

The taxi driver, a kind and friendly person, managed to create a pleasant atmosphere despite the language barrier. However, the visitor noticed something unusual: the driver did not accept payment by card, insisting only on cash, which has now become the norm in taxis. The final price of the route was 160 euros.

Concerned about the price and the possibility of fraud, the visitor asked the driver for a receipt. Despite the fact that he could not read Greek, the visitor hopes that someone can help him interpret the receipt and judge whether the fee was fair, so he brings up the whole story of Reddit.
