How to Disable Windows Start Menu Ads

As we have seen recently, new windows 11 update, called KB5036980, enter ads in the Start menu.

Previously, Microsoft displayed recommendations and suggested recently used apps in the Recommended section of the Start menu. This section has now been renamed “Show recommendations for tips, app promotions, and more.‘ and includes ads for apps available in the Microsoft Store.

While this update remains optional for now, it will likely be rolled out more widely in the coming weeks. However, you can easily disable these recommendations. Here’s how to do it:

Open Windows Settings (shortcut Windows + I).

Select “Personalization” in the left column, then the section “To start‘ in the customization options.

Find the line “Show recommendations for tips, shortcuts, new apps, and more.
