Gmail only allows sending files up to 25MB. This can be a problem if you need to send larger chunks and the recipient doesn’t use services like Dropbox.
However, it is possible to send files in a range up to 10GB via Gmail (or other messaging services). Google Drive which is also directly integrated into Gmail. Here is the procedure you need to follow on the computer and in the app.
Send large files to Gmail from a computer
- Go to Gmail and click New Message.
- In the new message window, click the Google Drive icon. In the pop-up window, click the My Device tab, locate the large file, and click Insert.
- If the file isn’t already in Google Drive, click the paper clip icon to upload it directly from your computer. Google Drive will take care of the rest and create a link for the recipient.
- Compose your email with the attachment, then send it. The recipient will receive a link to download the file.
Send large files using the Gmail app
- Launch the app and start a new email. Tap the paper clip icon and select “Insert from Drive”.
- Go to “My Device”, find the large file, select it and press “Select”. The link will be automatically added to the email.
- Finish writing your email and send it. The recipient will receive a link to download the file.
