Although originally intended to facilitate conversations between players, Discord has expanded its influence into other areas and has about 200 million monthly active users. And yet, despite its popularity and the introduction of its paid subscription, Nitro Discord wasn’t generating enough revenue and so decided to introduce advertisements.
They are presented in the form of “quests” that users can complete to earn special rewards such as badges or custom emojis. For example, if you are watched for at least 15 minutes while streaming a game.
However, this feature is easily disabled whether you are a Nitro subscriber or not.
To do this, simply follow these steps:
- Open Discord and click the gear icon in the lower left, next to the headset and microphone icons, to access the user settings.
- From the menu that appears, select “Privacy & Security” located at the top of the left column.
- Scroll down until you find the “In-Game Rewards (aka Missions)” tab and turn it off.
- Once this is done, you will no longer see mission banners in Discord.
However, note that you can still view and accept available quests by going to User Settings and then selecting “Gift Inventory”.
