The annual report Travel trend on the well-known platform is revealing new interest in lesser-known destinations around the world.
The end of 2024 is drawing to a close, so after you’ve seen – maybe even planned – the popular fall trips, it’s time to start looking ahead to travel information for the new year – and SkyScanner’s Travel Trends Report can to help us!
Each year, the platform publishes a compilation of destinations that have seen the greatest growth in popularity based on searches from travelers from the UK and US. T2024 belonged to Marseille but what about 2025?
In the UK, research by SkyScanner found that British travelers are increasingly heading to lesser-known, “underrated” destinations. The Reggio Calabria in Italy is the most popular destination for travelers from the UK, with searches up 541%!
The US is seeing a similar trend toward unexplored vacation spots—specifically, Americans are seeking more travel to overseas destinations, with an emphasis on relaxing vacations. Who can blame them? The most popular destination was Grand Turk Island in Turks and Caicos – searches have increased by 528%!
There was a lot of demand on the emerging destination listings. Tromsø, a city located on the edge of the Arctic between Norway’s fjords, saw a 129% increase in searches in the US and 85% in the UK, taking third and seventh place respectively.
