Taxi drivers are on strike to protest problems with taxes, insurance, unfair competition and compulsory electrification from 2026.
Today, Monday, September 9, 2024, taxi drivers in Athens are on a 24-hour strike from 5:00am, which will continue until 5:00am. on Tuesday, September 10, which is organized by Attica Taxi Drivers Union (fuck it) and aims to I protest against a series of government decisions affecting their profession. The main demands concern the new tax law, the insurance law, unfair competition from private vehicles and sharing platforms, as well as the transition to electrification from 2026.
Taxi drivers believe that these changes burden the profession with serious financial and operational risks. In particular, the issue of electrification has been characterized as the “harbinger of death” for the sector, due to the high investment requirements associated with changing the fleet to electric vehicles. At the same time, they blame the government for failing to deal with unfair competition from private car and brokerage companies, which they claim is taking away their market share.
The strike will be accompanied by a debriefing meeting at the Peristeri exhibition center where SATA members will discuss the sector’s main issues.
The SATA announcement
colleague
Your taxi, our taxi is in danger.
A series of government decisions and important legislative gaps clearly indicate the direction.
The new tax law is leading us with mathematical precision to unprofitable work and financial ruin.
Insurance tightens the noose around our necks even more.
Unfair competition from private cars, multinational apps and PIRACY steal our highest quality transport work every day with the tolerance of the state.
And instead of the Ministry offering solutions, Ms. Kefalogianni issues explanatory circulars through the Ministry of Tourism, which misinterprets the law and prevents the control authorities from finding violations and imposing sanctions.
The government’s electrification obsession of 2026 is the chronicle of the foretold death of our profession.
that is enough.
Each of us must come forward and fight close to our Union, protest, oppose everything that is being done for us without us!
Don’t let them play with our lives.
We say no to party, business, financial interests. The only thing left for us is the taxi!
