There are plans to merge 41 existing cities into one metropolitan area in this European country.
A while ago we mentioned that Europe could get a brand new country and now there’s news of a brand new city that will spread farther and wider than London or Rome…
Okay, it’s not as crazy and futuristic as it sounds. Actually, on Poland proposes the creation of a new “hypercity”, but not building it from scratch – instead, the plans involve merging 41 existing cities in Poland’s Southern Silesia region to create this new metropolitan area.
The area has a population of 2.1 million and covers about 2,500 square kilometers, which is significantly more than London’s 1,572 and Rome’s 1,285, but what’s the point of all that?
Well, according to TVP World , the president of Upper Silesia-Zaglebie (the general association of the 41 cities) Kazimierz Karolczak said that the goal is “to improve the quality of life of residents by using the potential of individual sites in an organization.”
And there is already progress. So far, public transport tickets have been released and various metropolitan lines have been launched. In the future, it is hoped that other benefits will mean cheaper utilities for residents, a consistent tax policy and various development projects in the region. This is definitely an interesting proposition – we’ll be back with updates on how it develops.
