Starting today, Instagram users can go live in a smaller, private group made up of only their close friends lists. Up to three other accounts can join live and participate in the broadcast with the original user. This new feature does not make anyone jealous and is global and therefore available in France.
Previously, live was available to everyone if the account was public, or to all subscribers if the account was private. Live videos are popular among influencers and celebrities who can communicate with their followers or share live events, such as concerts, to a large audience.
The new live streaming option to just a small group of people feels more like a group FaceTime call than a public live. The examples of use offered by Instagram are more intimate: the user can share content without fear of the judgment of certain subscribers. Living with close friends can even be used to arrange a private study session!
Instagram emphasizes more private options in the app, which contributes to a significant increase in user protection. In November 2023, Instagram members were able to make their posts visible only to their close friends and not to all their followers. Last May, Instagram added the ability to limit interactions to only close friends, allowing you to filter out comments, direct messages, mentions, and more. This filtering was intended to reduce harassment towards content creators, but is now being used by anyone who wants a more intimate and curated Instagram experience.
