The graphics card, ARM will go up against Nvidia, AMD and Intel

ARM, the chip design giant, is currently working on developing a new GPU at its development center in Ra’anana, Israel. This ambitious project aims to offer a graphics solution capable of competing with industry heavyweights such as Nvidia, AMD and Intel in the fast-growing graphics card market.

Sources familiar with the matter say a team of nearly 100 engineers specializing in chip and software development has been assembled at ARM’s Israeli facilities. It mainly focuses on creating GPUs for the video game market. Some industry experts suggest that this new technology could also be adapted for artificial intelligence (AI) processing in the future. The approach would not be new, as it has been seen at Nvidia, which has been gradually integrating AI accelerators into its products.

ARM, a team dedicated to developing a new “discrete” GPU

This Ra’anana Development Center plays a central role in this initiative. It concentrates several centers in the hardware development of critical components of these GPUs, in particular the Immortalis and Mali series. We also find software teams focused on creating interfaces for external graphics engine developers. Collaborations are reportedly underway with established game developers as well as startups.

ARM has already carved out a niche in the PC market through partnerships with companies like Qualcomm, which use Snapdragon X chips with integrated GPUs. Here, however, Arm is looking to enter the graphics card market to compete directly with the current giants. Although the details are still unclear, it is possible that Arm will develop GPUs to power Arm-based PCs, including future SKUs. Copilot+ for office.
