Microsoft has released a new cumulative update for Windows 10 identified as KB5041582. It is optional, meaning it must be installed manually via Windows Update or downloaded directly from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
Unlike some previous updates, this one does not offer new features, but focuses on fixing various issues and improving the overall quality of the system.
Windows 10 and KB5041582
Among the fixes, it improves COSA profiles for certain mobile operators, which should improve compatibility and performance of mobile connections. It also fixes several memory leaks, including those that cause apps to crash when a dropdown has input focus or when using certain Bluetooth devices. The update also fixes an issue where the computer may crash when accessing symbolic links, as well as another issue related to rebooting machines due to an SCCM task failing to re-enable the Unified Write Filter (UWF).
After this update is installed, the version of Windows 10 changes to 19045.4842, a number that you can check by running Winver.exe through the Run command (WIN+R). Despite the fixes provided by this update, some bugs persist in Windows 10, one of which has been around for several months and still hasn’t been resolved.
This update is recommended for those experiencing issues. However, it remains optional, knowing that its content will be rolled out automatically during the next Patch Tuesday.
