Condé Nast Traveler has published its list of the most beautiful streets and avenues in the world, and it includes a famous market destination London
Travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler has just revealed its selection of the 71 most picturesque streets in the world, including a typical London street.
The British capital boasts countless beautiful streets, avenues, courtyards and more, but the CNT chose to include one extremely famous place on its list, none other than Portobello Road in west London.
Stretching from North Kensington to Notting Hill Gate, Portobello Road is characterized by brightly painted houses, lively foodie spots and, of course, the must-see market (which is one of the best things to do in London).
The stalls are there from Monday to Saturday and are open for a few hours on Sundays as well. But if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the market there are lots of great little record shops, well stocked shops, lovely pubs and great bakeries.
Other roads that have risen through the ranks include Rue de l’Abreuvoir in Paris and Tetsugaku No Michi in Kyoto as well as roads in Burano, Bruges and Buenos Aires.
About Portobello, Condé Nast Traveler writes: “Before becoming one of the world’s most popular markets, London’s mile-long Portobello Road was just a 19th-century country lane connecting the prosperous Portobello Farm to Kensal Green to the north and today is the colorful district of Notting Hill to the south. In the second half of the 1800s, however, the street began to develop in response to the housing that sprang up around it.
This colorful west London neighborhood is more than just a few pretty streets, as it’s full of the best pubs, bars, restaurants and other things to do here, and it’s a filming location for world famous movies.
