4th meeting of ambassadors in Skiathos

The Municipality of Skiathos organizes for the fourth year a meeting of ambassadors in order to promote and strengthen relations with the countries of the ambassadors.

They organized a meeting of the ambassadors for the fourth year in a row Skiathos Municipality between 13-15 September 2024. As part of information activities and synergies to promote the destination, the Municipality wanted to recognize the ambassadors of the countries whose citizens choose Skiathos as a holiday destination. The meeting, which took place on Saturday, September 14 in the hall of the Municipal Council, was also attended by the Belgian ambassador Mark CalcohenAmbassador of Israel Noam Katzthe Lithuanian ambassador Lina Skerstonaiteand the British Consul Alexandra Gregory.

The meeting started with the welcome of the mayor Mr. Theodore Jumawho welcomed the ambassadors and noted that the meeting of the ambassadors is an honorable meeting that is held for the fourth year in a row with a warm response from the ambassadors, thereby establishing itself as an institution. The aim is for the ambassadors to get to know Skiathos through a two-day guided tour of the cultural and tourist attractions and on departure become ambassadors of Skiathos, in addition to ambassadors of their countries.

Skiathos

The ambassadors then sent a message, with Belgian Ambassador Marc Calcohen saying he was excited by the beauties of the island, which he was visiting for the first time, its history and the opportunities it offers to the visitor. Israeli Ambassador Noam Katz stated that he is now Skiathos’ ambassador to his country, stressing that he will strengthen in every way the excellent relations between the two countries, Skiathos being distinguished by its special character. In turn, the Lithuanian ambassador Lina Skerstonaite pointed out that Skiathos is the only island in Greece that he visited for the second time and would gladly visit again. He then emphasized that Skiathos, in addition to its rich cultural heritage, which is worth visiting, has a point of contact with Lithuania, thus understanding the reason why it was chosen as a holiday destination, and these are its forests. British Consul Alexandra Gregory emphasized the excellent relations between the two countries, stressing that Skiathos is traditionally a favorite destination for British tourists and hopes that this excellent cooperation with all institutions on the island will continue so that Skiathos can become an even more popular destination.

Finally, the Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Mr. Alekos Efstatiustated that Skiathos Municipality will continue efforts for direct flights from Belgium to Skiathos to open up the Belgian market. Regarding the markets of Great Britain, Israel and Lithuania, he emphasized that the Municipality will continue the excellent cooperation it has with these countries for an even greater influx of visitors. The meeting ended with the presentation of souvenirs and the renewal of the next meeting of the ambassadors in Skiathos.

Skiathos

The municipal authorities have planned a hospitality program for the ambassadors during their stay to familiarize them with the hospitality, history, local products and unique nature of Skiathos. The program included a visit to the Holy Monastery of the Annunciation, Parisi Winery, the Museum of Maritime and Cultural Traditions of Skiathos, House-Museum of Alexandros Papadiamantis, the House of Skiathos, Art House Gallery Reborn Project, as well as a tour of the island. The ambassadors were impressed by the beauties of Skiathos and said they were moved by the history and cultural tradition of the place.
