OR Airbnb has teamed up with the legendary musician’s band The Revolution to offer the rare opportunity to actually stay in Prince’s home, the house featured in the cult 1984 Prince-starrer Purple Rain – to be precise – the film in which he made his acting debut.
Forty years after its dazzling debut, Purple Rain is still making waves, proving that Prince’s masterpiece is much more than just an ’80s relic—it’s a cultural phenomenon that refuses to fade. To National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2019 for its “cultural, historical, and aesthetic significance.”
For decades, the Minneapolis home from the movie has been a “place of pilgrimage” for Prince fans, especially since his death in 2016. But soon, fans will be able to do more than take photos outside of this piece of pop culture history. .
Airbnb has partnered with The Revolution, Prince’s band, to offer 25 groups a night in the real Purple Rain movie house. The experience is part of Airbnb’s new Icons program featuring “excellent experiences hosted by the biggest names in music, film, television, art, sports and more.”». Other stays include being able to watch the Olympics opening ceremony at the Musée D’Orsay in Paris, a stay at the X-Men Mansion in New Castle, New York, and more.
Inside the Purple Rain house, visitors will find an exact replica of the Children’s bedroom (the name of Prince’s character in the film), complete with sheet music and instruments, lavender lighting and a mural depicting eyes looking over the bed.
The bathroom pays homage to the music video for “When Doves Cry” and is outfitted with stained-glass windows and plush purple and lavender robes.
There’s also a wardrobe full of ’80s-inspired clothing for guests to borrow during their stay, as well as wigs, accessories and eye make-up to complete the look. They can be inspired by some of Prince’s most iconic outfits, including the original purple trench coat and white ruffled shirt from the film, which are on display at home behind a display case.
Since the stay is in honor of the legend, it makes sense that music plays a central role. There’s a vintage ’80s stereo full of songs that inspired Prince, a living room filled with instruments and instructions on how to play the chorus of “Purple Rain” (along with pre-recorded audio of it), and Prince’s personal collection of including one of his records. Airbnb also teases a “secret door. . . in a room full of treasures.”
We hope the venue gives fans a glimpse into the eclectic world Prince has created and visitors leave feeling a little closer to him as an artist and a personRevolution bandmates Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman said in a press release.
While in town, guests can visit other Minneapolis shooting locations, including the iconic First Avenue Club, the Orpheum Theater, and Electric Fetus, Prince’s favorite record store.

The Purple rain house will be available for a total of 25 nights between October 26 and December 14, 2024. The reservation request period begins on October 2 at 6am. PT at the address airbnb.com/prince and closed on October 6 at 11:59 p.m. PT. Winners may invite up to three additional guests to stay overnight. Check-in is $7 per person, a nod to Prince’s favorite number, and guests will arrive individually in Minneapolis.
